Will the real Kim Chiu please speak up?

CONVERSATIONS - Ricky Lo - Pilipino Star Ngayon

I don’t owe anybody any explanation.

With that sentence, Kim Chiu became controversial after she was asked about her love life during the presscon for Star Cinema’s Bride For Rent, her second movie with Xian Lim who is being constantly linked to her (although Xian often hints at it, no confirmation has come from Kim so far). Their first starrer, Bakit Di Ka Crush ng Crush Mo, was not well-received by the public, though. But their new starrer, Past Tense, promises to be a good follow-up to Bride For Rent which was a hit.

No incident happened during the presscon for Past Tense because nobody bothered to ask Kim the same “sensitive” question and risked being slapped with a sterner answer. But seriously, Kim or any actor for that matter, owes the public maybe not an explanation but at least an answer to any question because they tease and tickle the public imagination with morsels of their private life, don’t they?

Showing nationwide starting on Wednesday, Nov. 26, as part of Star Cinema’s 20th-anniversary series offerings, Past Tense is touted as the company’s early Christmas gift to fans. Like Bride For Rent, it’s also directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar from a screenplay by Melissa Mae Chua, Katherine Labayen and Vanessa Valdez. In the rom-com, Kim plays a girl who wakes up in 2034 from a 20-year coma and is given a chance to correct her mistakes. She returns to year 2014 as her younger self only to discover the truth about her boyfriend Carlos (PBB winner Daniel Matsunaga) and her real feelings for her best friend (Xian).

Will Kim make perhaps a Freudian slip in the following “Who, What, Where, When, How” test and give us a glimpse of her private self?
