'Makabuhay': Survivor, savior

The 1953 LVN movie Makabuhay tells of the love affair between a survivor (Lilia Dizon) and her savior (Mario Montenegro). Lilia is the woman used and abused by society, but like the makabuhay plant which thrives and survives anywhere, she emerges victorious... with the help of Mario.

Rosa Rosal is the other woman.

Makabuhay, like many films in the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s, is based on a magazine (Liwayway) novel serialized on DZPI.                   — RKC
