Sea of runners to hit the roads for 14th University Run

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Over a thousand runners will hit the roads early morning today for the 14th edition of the Cebu Doctors’ University Run at the CDU grounds in north reclamation area, Mandaue City.

The race covers three distances - 3K, 5K and 10K.

The 5K and 10K have different categories including the open, students, CDU alumni and CebuDoc Group employees. The shortest distance will have an open and students division only.

Although a shorter race this time, the event organizers assured all participants of a more fun-filled route owing to the continuation of the best water station contest for the different colleges of CDU.

Aside from that, there will also be a cheerdance contest for the students.

In a related development, today’s event also serves as a “test run” for the multi-titled Paralympian Arnold Balais on his new running leg prosthetics.

Balais, whose team PADS won two golds in the World Dragonboat Championships in Thailand recently, will be taking part in the 3K run.

Balais got his running leg prosthetics in Japan last summer from a generous sponsor he met during one of his talks in Manila.

Although he has already endured a lot of challenges in life and in sports, Balais still has mixed feelings going into the race. Nevertheless, he hopes to finish with a respectable time as he has a higher target with his new prosthetics for the benefit of children with cancer.
