A $15M house and a $26K bed

NBA BUZZ - Bobby Motus - The Freeman

Somewhere in an exclusive Chicago area, a house is up for sale.  With a floor area of approximately 18,000 square meters, it’s more of a palace.  It is owned by somebody rich and famous and just like people of the same species, the property is the kind where fiction becomes reality.

The mansion has 15 bedrooms, 5 fireplaces with state-of-the-art kitchens both inside and outside the house.  It has fitness equipment that makes Gold’s Gym shiver, a covered, full-sized basketball court and just outside the structure, a tennis court.  There is the requisite swimming pool and a garage that can accommodate 15 cars.  There are game rooms and a well-manicured putting green.  If you get tired of all the amenities mentioned, it has a full-service beauty salon to fix your hair and recharge your tired and aching muscles.

Originally listed on the market in 2012 at $29 million, it is now chopped to an “affordable” $15M.  We all know the owner.  He won 6 NBA titles and 6 NBA Finals MVP.  Yes, Michael Jordan’s estate on 2700 Point Lane in Chicago is up for sale.  Just imagine what kind of property it is with a floor area of 1.8 hectares.  Surely, it sits on an area not less than 3 hectares that you can’t see the mansion as you enter the gate.

If some rich dude ultimately gets to own the property, MJ will throw in, as a bonus, a pair of every single edition and color variation of his signature Air Jordans in the buyer’s shoe size.  There will be hundreds of them and storing them won’t be a problem.  There’s a 15-car garage where you can keep them AJs.  Something just nags me.  Knowing that MJ sports a clean and shiny pate, is there really a need for a hair dresser?  A head polisher, maybe.

How does a 7’2, 245-pound NBA rookie sleep?  Obviously, he closes his eyes, but what troubles him are the beds because the regular ones are just too small for his size.  His foot extends at least ten inches from regular sized beds and he can’t stretch that much.  With the frequent travelling of NBA teams, hotels usually provide him with a king size bed and a single bed put together.

Kristaps Porzingis, New York’s prized rookie now has that problem solved.  Luxury bed manufacturer Shifman Mattress provided Zingis with an athletic size bed.  It measures 6’7’’ x 8’ and since it is custom made, it is expensive.  What exactly can someone dream of when sleeping on a $26,000 bed is still a mystery.  He really had a good night’s sleep when the Knicks beat Kobe and Lakers the other day.

Talking about the Lakers and Zingis, most probably, they had some few regrets why they passed up on the beanpole and opted for a point guard who still has to show some spunk.  The Latvian is aggressive and already has several highlight put-back jams.

Cleveland and Golden State are playing like their supposed to.  The Lakers, oh yes, are also playing like their supposed to – not really expected to go that far.  Raising eyebrows are Atlanta, Detroit, Portland and Toronto.  Falling below expectations are the Pelicans and OKC.  We’re two weeks into the new NBA season and its quite early to make predictions.  So far, this is slowly shaping into Steph Curry’s league, never mind the Hulk-like, sleeve ripping act of LeBron.  As of this writing, the Warriors are the only remaining unbeaten team with a 7-0 record.  If records are meant to be broken, Curry and company will do so even without Coach Steve Kerr.
