6th Cebu 10s Rugby Festival this Saturday

CEBU, Philippines - Close to 300 local and international Rugby players will convene for the 6th Annual International Cebu 10s Rugby Festival that gets underway this Saturday at the Cebu International School field.

The one-day tournament is divided into men’s and women’s category.

 Seeing action under the men’s class is host team Cebu Dragons, Manila Nomads, Alabang Eagles, CBRE Vipers, MAAP Warriors and Davao Durians.

Providing challenge to our local bets are international top guns such as the Christchurch High School Old Boys Assassins (Netherlands), Trelleborg Pingvins (Sweden), Beijing Aardvarks (China), Tanglin Thunderbirds (Singapore), Paradise Hunters (Papua New Guinea) and Yangon Dragons (Myanmar).

For the women’s division, the participants fighting for the title are defending champions Cebu Lady Dragons, Manila Mayhem, Manila Monsoons and Seoul Sisters from South Korea.

“This tournament will measure how the sport (Rugby) has developed here in Cebu,” said Simon Hoyle, Vis-Min Rugby Union chairman, in a press conference yesterday at the Emerald Isle Irish bar and restaurant.

“This is the largest event we organize so far and we will witness a stiff competition especially that foreign and local top Rugby players are set to join in the tournament.

Special trophies and medals awaits the winners of the tournament will also serve as a fund-raising event for the victims of super typhoon ‘Yolanda’ in Visayas.  (FREEMAN)
