Carcel siblings shine in 5th leg of Superkart Series

CEBU, Philippines - The Carcel siblings Tonyo and Kali stamped their respective classes in the fifth leg of the Kartzone Superkart Series the other day at the Kartzone racetack in Kasambagan, this city.

It was one sweet victory for Tonyo as he did not only survive some trouble along the way, but also avenged his loss to Jette Calderon in the KT expert division during the fourth leg last week.

Tonyo and Kali, who were at the same grid, had a good start to grab the pole position after posting the best time in the qualifying round.

Kali raced on smoothly to top all heats for the crown in the KT novice class. Vince Rojo finished second as Jed Binoya wound up third.

Tonyo, for his part, had to work extra to win the battle.

Tonyo was left behind after a collision with JT Gullas, but he was able to recover from 10th to fifth place at the end of the first heat.

In the second heat, Tonyo has overtaken two karters to give him a better standing going into the third and final heat.

As the third race was fast approaching, Kali and Tonyo said they were so tensed and nervous, but swiftly regained their composure especially when they saw each other doing well.

Tonyo outmaneuvered Calderon after two laps to clinch the title and pad his lead in the race for the |coveted “Karter of the Year” award.

Like Kali, Panpan Reroma also led all the way to win the KT masters division over Regan King. (FREEMAN)
