17th Gullas Cup set May 21-25

-

CEBU, Philippines - Some of the country's top junior netters will once again converge in the Queen City of the South for the 17 edition of the Gullas Cup slated on May 21-25 at the Cebu International Tennis Centre, Inc. (CITCI) courts in Brgy. Laray, Consolacion.Over 150 players are expected to take part in one of the longest-running age-group tournaments in the country.

"For the first time, we are moving the venue to CITCI's eight tennis courts. This way, we can get more matches done in the same period of time," said John Z. Pages, one of the organizers.

The categories to be contested in the Group 2 PHILTA-sanctioned tilt are the unisex 10-under, 12, 14, 16 and 18-under for both boys and girls. Double entry is allowed.

No games will be played from 11 am to 1 pm due to the excessive heat during that time.

Registration fee is pegged at P300 inclusive of a shirt and dinner party on May 23 at the Bright Academy gym in Brgy. Banilad, this city.

Those who are interested to join the five-day contest have only until Friday to register. Entry forms are available at Chris Sports in SM City-Cebu and Ayala Center.

For further information, one may contact tournament director Fritz Tabura 0917-6366344 or 0933-6414084.

Conceptualized by the Gullas family led by Jose "Dodong" R. Gullas and his brother Eduardo "Eddiegul" R. Gullas in 1995, the annual event takes pride for being the biggest junior tennis competition in the Vis-Min region in terms of the number of participants. (FREEMAN)
