Singwangcha, Mabait out to settle old issue

-

CEBU, Philippines - Undefeated Mindanao brawlers Marco Demecillo Singwangcha (15-0-1, 11KOs) and Marvin "Chavacano Disaster" Mabait (16-0-2, 10KOs) hope to settle once and for all their unfinished business whey they clash anew for the Philippine super flyweight title in the main event of the "Kadaugan sa Mactan" boxing show on April 22 at the historic Mactan Shrine in Brgy. Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City.

Singwangcha and Mabait fought to a majority draw over four rounds during their first encounter on January 31, 2009 at the Cebu Coliseum.

Singwangcha survived a first round knockdown and was deducted a point in round two for an accidental headbutt that opened a cut on Mabait's right eyebrow, but the pride of Iligan City courageously fought back to forge a majority draw with the Zamboanga-native Mabait.

At that time, Singwangcha was only in his second pro fight and the fourth for Mabait. Since then, a lot of things have changed as far as the skills and maturity of the two ring gladiators are concerned.

The 21-year-old Singwangcha, who fights out of the RWS Gym owned by Cebuano topnotch promoter Rex "Wakee" Salud, racked up 14 straight victories capped with a ninth round stoppage of Lowie Bantigue to win the interim Phl 115-pound crown on October 9 last year at the Panphil B. Frasco Memorial Sports Complex in Liloan, Cebu.

Not to be outdone, Mabait chalked up 11 consecutive wins, the most latest was a 12-round unanimous decision over Rey Perez to snatch the Phl super flyweight belt last January 28 at the Recom Dome in Caloocan City. Two accidental headbutts during the match inclicted a cut on Perez' head and on Mabait's left eyebrow.

In the supporting bouts of the Singwangcha-Mabait rematch, Fernando Ocon will make his ring comeback against Jay-R Estremos of Baguio City, while Marlou Sandoval Singwangcha and Jayson Rodondo Singwangcha will gop up against Marlo Talili of Bohol and Jayvee Alipio of Baguio, respectively.

The rest of the card pits TI Yamagata Valero vs. Zaldy Aroa;Rajah Renoel Pael vs. Joel Ventual;Rodel Wenceslao vs. Sesustener Llanera;Junior Salvador vs. Lyndel Radoc;Ardie Boyosi vs. Junmar Sahay; and Erwin Yamo vs. Kenny Demecillo. (FREEMAN)
