Waiting fans

Tiger Woods missing the cut in the recent PGA Championships is another proof that those who can’t play too well must not lose hope.

Tiger, who has been struggling with both physical and emotional problems, has not won a single tournament this year, but his fans haven’t given up.

Yes, there are new faces in every tournament that would surge to the top and win big bucks, but this doesn’t put them on the same level as Tiger much more the other greats like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player.

They may have won the same event that the greats have won, but then one win doesn’t make them the icons that these greats are.

Tiger has won 14 Majors. 

For those who don’t understand, there are four Majors in golf – the Masters, British Open, US Open, and the PGA Championships.

You can never be considered a great golfer if you haven’t won a Major. Okay, they might have won one, but then like rock stars that fade as quickly as shooting stars, one hit wonders are often easily forgotten.

I am not saying that the recent Major winners would not get to do it again. They can, but you can’t say they’re contenders each time they play.

I haven’t given up on Tiger and still hope to see him back in shape during tournaments. What he does with his personal life is his, but of course he has to be careful because so many people look up to him.

Want to do some good this Sunday aside from attending religious service?

Why don’t you head to the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City to watch ‘Over the Hill,’ a charity softball event starting at 2 p.m.

There would be two games featured on this day – Bandidos vs. Flamingos from 2 to 4 p.m. and Fastball vs. Habstarken from 4 to 6 p.m.

Entrance fee to the venue will be P100 and there would also be food booths. All proceeds would be for the benefit of the children studying at the Gerardo Ypil Elementary School in Manlayag, Danao City.

This is organized by Dr. Gerard Ypil III, who is a big enthusiast of softball.

Those who want to donate school supplies for the 214 school children are also encouraged to bring them on Sunday.

You don’t only get to watch softball, spend time in an open field, bond with friends and family, but also give to the less fortunate if you go there.

MILESTONES: Belated birthday greetings to Lt. Gen. Ralph Villanueva, commander of the Central Command, who turned a year older yesterday.

Today’s very special greetings go to my little sister Naika Quiñones-Addington, who turns another year older today.

The same goes to my brother and mistah Lt. Col. Romeo Racadio of the Philippine Marines, Jack Biantan, Edelyn Samson-Eribal, Rycky Pilapil, and Sam Costanilla.
