Desuasido scores ace in MIGC event

A soldier from the Philippine Air Force had a major payday yesterday in the second round of the Island Tee at the Mactan Island Golf Club in Lapu-Lapu City.

Technical Sgt. Dante Desuasido aced the 160-yard hole No. 15, which is the signature hole of the course located inside the Mactan Benito Air Base.

News of the feat was relayed to The Freeman by Ricarte Santos.  Santos also said that no less than B. Gen. Nicomedes Corpuz, the commander of the Tactical Operations Command, is very elated that a soldier from his command won a windfall of prizes.  This sentiment is shared by Ret. Gen. Rodante Joya, general manager of the club.

Desuasido told The Freeman that he is still very much numb after what happened, which he says is a very big surprise.

He used a Callaway Big Bertha No. 4 iron for the feat, which was witnessed by his partner in the tournament, Capt. Genaro Ordonio, and Jessie Diez.

Hole no. 15 features an island green as is regarded as the signature hole of the club.

Desuasido said it was his first ace. The prizes at stake for an ace on the hole are a 2007 Kia Sportage SUV, a Honma golf set, and a Yamaha Crypton motorcycle for the feat.

“I still can’t believe it,” he said.

The Island Tee will run until tomorrow.  The awards ceremony will be held at the Casino Filipino Mactan, which is a co-presentor of the tournament along with Rep. Benhur Salimbangon.
