Mountain Trail Run

After adjusting the schedule with other cycling and running events, the third edition of the much- awaited Cebu Mountain Trail Run finally unfolds on June 25 in Kalunasan near Guadalupe. The route will cover over 8 kilometers of trail mostly uphill and downhill. As in the past runners will have a break from the usual city streets, smog, traffic and heat. I'm again advising runners to enjoy the scenery, smell the trees, listen to the birds and just have fun. Close to 600 runners headed by the 200-Strong Timex Running Club, joined last year's race.

Recto Branch In Nepal?

Independent climber Dale Abenojar claimed he is the real first Pinoy to scale Mt.Everest. A former member of the UP Mountaineering Club, Abenojar said he reached the summit on May 15 or two days earlier than Leo Oracion and Pastor Emata.He even showed pictures supposedly taken at the peak and had a certification from a Tibet mountaineering organization that he indeed conquered the world's tallest peak. UP Mountaineer's top gun Boboy Fernandez said Abenojar once boasted that he rode a bicycle on Mt.Apo in Davao,a claim Boboy said was impossible.Boboy also said unlike Oracion and Emata who are veteran triathletes and adventure racers,Abenojar lacks endurance training and could never have reached the peak ahead of the duo. Boboy even said that Abenojar became sick two days before attacking the summit. Leo on the other hand said the peak of Mt.Everest is littered with many flags and there is a statue of the Dalai Lama. Whereas the picture of Abenojar showed no such things. Regarding the certificate, my good friend Al Mendoza of PDI said "Baka may branch ang mga taga C.M.Recto(Manila)sa Nepal". Al was definitely referring to those shops that manufacture fake diplomas, transcript of records,etc.complete with school or company seals. As I write this column. Abenojar has yet to arrive in the country. He is suffering from frostbite in his big toe that is in danger of being amputated. Just like in my previous column "Winning". Some people will go to the extent of cheating just to realize their goal.
