CCCI to work with DOT to promote local tourism

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry have discussed possible collaboration for tourism and economic growth.

CCCI, led by its new president Jay Yuvallos, met with DOT Secretary Christina Frasco last Wednesday in Makati to discuss potential areas of collaboration.

CCCI’s visit to DOT is part of the chamber’s goals this year to leverage its existing programs and emphasize the profound significance of collaboration among non-government organizations, local government units, and national government agencies.

First off in the agenda is CCCI’s flagship project, the Cebu Business Month (CBM), which aims to promote and grow Cebu’s business sector.

DOT describes CBM as an annual event every June “to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit of Cebu and showcase the diverse and dynamic business community in the region”.

CBM offers a range of programs and activities that cater to different audiences, including business owners, entrepreneurs, investors, and the general public in the areas of Tourism, ICT- BPM/Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Creative Entertainment.

Frasco welcomed CCCI’s proposals with optimism, noting that the goal of the DOT is to equalize tourism opportunities across regions.

In Cebu in particular, Frasco is looking at CCCI to help in the further promotion of English as a second language (ESL), and dive industries.

CCCI can also be of help in the Cebu island’s development into a premier wedding and MICE destination to target source markets.

CCCI expressed openness to assisting DOT to highlight the importance of creating a high-value business ecosystem that would benefit the local tourism industry. — (FREEMAN)
