Vendors get food hygiene training

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Carbon Market re-development goes beyond just aesthetics, as vendors also get pieces of training, this time, on food hygiene.

Participants in the ongoing training are from the wet and “carenderia” sections of the Carbon Public Market.

The two-day event is expected to supplement the knowledge of around 100 vendors and stall owners on the proper handling of food products to ensure sanitation and better serve the buying public.

The said training was organized by the Cebu2World Development, Inc., Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), and the Cebu City Government, through the Office of the City Markets (OCM).

Josie Elli, formerly from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and seminar’s speaker, underscored the need to make sure that every product is properly checked before selling, carefully prepared, and regularly monitored.

She said food safety is about caring for the health of the consumers.

Vendors consider this training as a very timely and relevant activity, especially since the application and renewal of business permits are ongoing.

One of the requirements for the mayor’s permit is for them to pass the sanitary inspection.

After this group, more training from the other sectors of the Carbon market would also be conducted soon. (FREEMAN)
