BOC-Cebu, Mactan exceed collection target for May
CEBU, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs Port of Cebu has once again surpassed its monthly revenue collection target for the month of May as it was able to collect P3.605 billion which is over the target by 22.37 percent or P659.22 million.
This five-month collection brings the bureau a total revenue for 2022 to P16.221 billion.
Last month’s collection was the highest ever the Port of Cebu has collected in a single month, breaking April’s record by P71.4 million.
Compared to last year’s collection for the same month, this May’s is also P1.35 billion higher, reflecting an almost 60 percent growth.
BOC-Cebu District Collector Charlito Martin R. Mendoza, in a statement posted in their Facebook page, attributed the feat to the good governance reforms being implemented in the Bureau.
This is apart from the unswerving commitment to service of the men and women of the bureau and the support of its stakeholders and partner government agencies in helping the bureau achieve its mandates.
Under the leadership of BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, the bureau continues to strengthen its revenue collection performance by strictly implementing the valuation and classification rules, maximizing the use of ICT systems to facilitate cargo clearance, and conducting regular stakeholder engagement to boost customs compliance.
On the other hand, the Bureau of Customs Sub-port of Mactan generated a total collection of ?105,069,137.25 which exceeds the month of May assigned target of ?88,550,000.00 by ?16,519,137.25 or 18.66%.
It said in their Facebook page that this achievement has been commended by Port Collector Gerardo Campo saying this will not be possible without the unfaltering support showed by Mendoza
“Indeed, this accomplishment is an indication of the collective efforts and dedication of the men and women of the Sub-port of Mactan, accompanied with continuous trust and help of the Port’s stakeholders,” it said.
It added that the collection performance is attributed to the improved valuation, intensified enforcement against illegal importations, and improved compliance by traders to customs laws. — GMR (FREEMAN)
