Don't bury deceased loved ones in the city, provincial residents asked

Mary Ruth R. Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Councilor David Tumulak has appealed to provincial residents not to bring the body of their deceased loved ones to the city for burial.

Tumulak urged the provincial government to also urge its local government units to assist the families of the deceased individuals to have their burial in their respective localities.

Tumulak received a report that there was an LGU that did not accept burial, so the family brought the body to the city.

He said the city is also doing its best in addressing this matter for its residents who passed away to have a decent burial.

“Mao na nga among awhagon ang provincial government nga please hinaut makasabot ang mga LGUs ngadto sa probinsiya nga naa pud tay atong giatiman pud dinhi,” said Tumulak.

The city government is seeking approval from the Archdiocese of Cebu for the possible construction of tombs in four Catholic cemeteries located in Calamba, Cabantan in Barrio Luz, Talamban, and Carreta.

These cemeteries are owned and managed by the Archdiocese.

Meanwhile, Tumulak informed that the families in the city who lost a loved one due to suspected COVID-19 will be assisted by the city government, through the Cadaver Section of the City Health Department, in looking for areas where they could be provided a decent burial.

Tumulak said the city government will provide guidance as this was the problem observed during the last few weeks.

“Sila pa’y namatyan, sila pa’y nagkaproblema asa ilubong. Karon, gitabangan na sa atong dakbayan pinaagi sa Cadaver Section,” he said. —GMR (FREEMAN)
