Driver dies in an early morning road accident
A van sustains severe damage after it was figured in an early morning collision with a passenger bus at the junction of Ouano Avenue and E.O. Perez Street in Subangdaku, Mandaue City yesterday resulting to the death of its driver identified as Cristopher Dono, 37, a resident of Tacan, Barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City.

CEBU, Philippines —  A driver of a private van died after his vehicle collided with a passenger bus along Ouano Avenue corner E.O. Perez Street in Subangdaku, Mandaue City yesterday morning.

Traffic investigators identified the victim as Cristopher Dono, 37, a resident of Tacan, Barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City.

The closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained from the area showed that the van driven by Dono which was traversing Ouano Avenue hit the passenger bus driven by Love Haluag at the intersection.

Haluag was coming out from E.O. Perez Street heading towards M. Logarta Street while Dono was heading to Cebu City.

It was seen that traffic lights that time were not yet operational since it was still around 4:58 a.m. and that the traffic lights in the city will start operating at 5 a.m.

Due to the impact, Dono reportedly sustained severe injuries. He was brought to Mandaue City District Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival by the attending physician.

Both vehicles have no reported passengers when the incident happened and that Haluag reportedly has no injury.

Haluag, a resident of Soong, Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City is currently detained at the Traffic Enforcement Unit of Mandaue City Police Office.

He will be facing charges for violation of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide with damage to property. — GMR (FREEMAN)
