CEBU, Philippines — Officials of Barangay Ermita, Cebu City yesterday held a special meeting to discuss about the wake of their eight residents who perished in the Iloilo sea tragedy last Saturday afternoon.

Barangay Ermita Captain Mark Miral told The FREEMAN that the wake of the eight victims will be at the barangay sports complex.

"Ganiha nag-session mi, nauyonan sa council nga anha ihaya sa sports complex.  Hatagan og venue diha tungod kay imagine walo kabuok, di na masulod ug usa ra ka balay and even chapel gani," Miral said.

He added that their main focus as of now is to bring the body of the victims back in Barangay Ermita.

A C130 airplane was already sent out to bring back the body of these victims to Cebu.

He denied receiving any information that the owner of the vessel will help in the financial expenses and burial of the victims. He said he will coordinate with the concerned persons about this.

At present, the barangay will look into the possibilities where they can get a budget to help the families of the victims.  If they would find some funds, they would immediately release to the bereaved family members.

Miral said that it will also depend on the City Government what they will provide to the families of the victims.

"Unang-una para wala na gyud gasto ang pamilya sa mga biktima and burial.  Lungon mao gyud na ang importante.  Unya financially, kung mahimo ang kaning mga pamilyang nahabilin hatagan ug igo-igong financial (assistance),” Miral said. — David E. Mesias (FREEMAN)
