Educator Eladio Dioko passes away
CEBU, Philippines — Education advocate and The FREEMAN columnist Dr. Eladio C. Dioko succumbed to lung cancer on June 20, Thursday. He was 84.
Dioko contributes write-ups twice weekly to The FREEMAN on his column dubbed “Straws in the Wind.”
He also grabbed top positions in the education industry.
He was former vice president for Administration of the University of the Visayas. He was also former regional director of the Department of Education in Central Visayas.
A close friend of Dioko would never forget his fond memories of the person whom he considered his mentor.
Alfie Ardillo, former campus director of UV-Toledo City, described Dioko as a humble and patient person.
“It was him who trained me and taught me on what to do when I was appointed as campus administrator in UV Toledo,” he said.
“He always keeps on telling me that we can never be the best. We can only become better every day, better than who we were and who we used to be,” he added, recalling his encounters of Dioko.
He said Dioko, being an education advocate, would always be missed by his colleagues at the academe.
Close friends and acquaintances of Dioko can visit his wake at St. Peter Chapels along New Imus Street in Barangay Lorega San Miguel, Cebu City.
Dioko’s immediate family is still discussing for his interment. — Bonen A. Clarin, CNU Intern/MBG (FREEMAN)
