30 thousand passengers expected at South Bus starting today

CEBU, Philippines — Starting today, the management of the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) is expecting a drastic increase in the number of passengers because of the elections on Monday.

CSBT Manager Joey Herrera said they expect around 30,000 passengers starting today until Sunday because voters will head to their hometowns to cast their vote.

On behalf of the management, he asked the riding public to be patient as long queues are expected.

The CSBT management will strengthen security measures and they already made a request for security personnel augmentation from the Capitol.

"Atoang i-consider nga on a regular weekend ngani nga crowd during the summer, grabe na man. Samot na inig-barangay election, ilabina holiday ang Monday," he said.

The provincial government will field one Coaster bus for priority passengers in case there is a lack of buses.

Priority passengers include senior citizens, pregnant women, persons with disability and those who have babies with them. The ride will be for free.

"(The preparations will be) pareha ra og special holiday like Kalag-Kalag and Semana Santa. Mao man gyud kuno nay mahitabo during election time," he told reporters at the Capitol.

It will be Herrera’s first time as the CSBT manager to supervise the terminal operations during an election period.

"Angay lang gyud pangandaman ang barangay elections kay grabe gyud kuno na ang pasahero," he continued.

Herrera added although he has not received a formal letter yet, there is a possibility that personnel from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will conduct an inspection as what they usually do during peak seasons. —MBG (FREEMAN)
