CEBU, Philippines - A truck helper died after he was pinned down by the concrete mixer truck he was riding that fell and tilted sideways at Sitio Cansaguibo, Barangay Tigbawan, Tabuelan, Cebu Friday afternoon.

Mateo Moreño, a resident of Sitio Tapon, Barangay Tabunok, Tabuelan, died after concrete mixer truck driven by Jonathan Magdadaro tilted and fell on him.

Police Officer 3 Gilbert Allego, desk officer of Tabuelan Police Station, said that the concrete mixer truck driven by Magdadaro was going uphill and the latter was reportedly blinded by the glaring sun.

Allego added that the right front tire of the truck also went off which resulted to the mixer truck to fall on its side.

“Nasuwawan siya sa adlaw, na-miscalculate niya ang dan. Unya ang right front tire diha man natangtang sa may slanting slope mao natakilid, na-out of balance ang truck,” he said.

At that time, Moreño was sitting on the roof of the truck, just above the driver’s seat.

The victim was reportedly thrown away when the truck lost its balance. Unfortunately, the truck fell exactly on where Moreño landed.

“Naabtan gyud siya sa truck. Nadat-ugan gyud siya,” Allego said.

Magdadaro is currently detained at the Tabuelan Police Station. Allego said that they are waiting for the relatives of Moreño to file a complaint against Magdadaro.

Meanwhile, another truck helper died after he was shot by an unidentified assailant at Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City, Cebu Friday morning.

The police identified the victim as a certain “John Prats” who was found dead inside the Fuso Fighter truck with plate number GVF 114.

Initial investigation showed that Gerry Navarro, 38, the driver of the truck, was about to inspect the vehicle when he saw the lifeless body of his companion at the driver’s seat.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound on his head that led to his death.

He was immediately brought to the Carcar City District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police are still conducting a follow-up investigation to further identify the victim and the suspect. —ATO (FREEMAN)
