CEBU, Philippines - After almost three years of being stalled, the waterworks system for mountain barangays in Tabuelan town will be fully operational this month.

Tabuelan Mayor Rex Gerona said the town is now working on the distribution of water after the completion of the installation of pipes for the transmission of potable water from the source in Gumbang Spring to a reservoir in Barangay Mabunao.

“Gikan sa spring padulong sa reservoir is seven kilometers. Lipay na kaayo mi kay nakaabot na gyod,” he said, adding that the purchase of the pipes was sourced from the P2-million assistance from the provincial government.

He added that the office of Vice Governor Agnes Magpale has pledged to shell out P200,000 to fund the pipes needed for the distribution of water to nine mountain barangays in the town.

The water system would serve the mountain barangays of Kanlim-ao, Mabunao, Villahermosa, Kantubaon, Kanluhangon, and upper sitios of coastal barangays of Tabunok, Olivo, Tigbawan and Maravilla.

Around 1, 600 families would benefit from the project once it is completed.

The town has been using its fire truck to distribute water, which is sourced from a spring.

Rovilla Construction, which was hired during the time of former governor and current third district Representative Gwendolyn Garcia, installed pipelines from a spring in the town to a reservoir in Barangay Mabunao.

The pipes, however, broke down during the typhoon last November 8. —  (FREEMAN)
