Gov tells ally to face charges

CEBU, Philippines - A town councilor who was recently arrested for illegal possession of a loose firearm has emotionally showed up at the office of Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III yesterday.

Carmen town councilor James Camara immediately left Capitol after meeting Davide, his political ally of the Liberal Party.

Davide told reporters that Camara may have just expressed his feeling after the incident.

“I just advised him, atubanga lang gyud nang kaso nimo kay that’s a serious offense,” Davide said.

Camara was arrested by the police for possession of a loose firearm in a checkpoint on the national road of Barangay Ipil, Carmen last week.

He was reportedly armed with a KG9 automatic machine pistol with 16 rounds of bullets while on board his multicab bearing plate number YKY 535 when arrested by the police.

Carmen Police Chief Insp. Alvin Balio asked for documents but Camara failed to show any.

Camara owns a parcel of land in Barangay Ipil but police still have to investigate why he carries a rifle.

Balio said they have been receiving reports from the residents of Barangay Ipil of someone who always fired a gun.

It was PO3 Roger Delan reportedly saw Camara as armed prompting him to call the police station for assistance and the checkpoint was established.

Camara was confined at a hospital in Cebu City for suffering high blood pressure during the arrest.

A case for illegal possession of firearm against Camara was filed at the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.—(FREEMAN)
