Cop sued for mauling woman

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A mother of a laundrywoman lodged a complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas against a police officer for allegedly mauling her daughter.

Irene Sitinta, 68, alleged that the policeman, assigned to the Police Station 6 in Mandaue City, mauled her daughter on August 25, 2013.

The FREEMAN is withholding the name of the policeman pending his comment on the complaint.

“I am determined to pursue the case. I want justice for my daughter,” Sitinta said.

On the said date, Nonoy Hirarman, one of Sitinta’s companions to the Office of the Ombudsman, said the victim was picked up by the policeman from their residence in Mandaue City around 1:23 p.m.

The victim voluntarily accompanied the police who brought her to the house of Lydia Mayol, her employer. While there, Hirarman alleged, she was mauled.

Before the incident, the victim reportedly found a ring while cleaning in the house of Mayol and planned to return it the following day.

But before she was able to return it, Hirarman said the victim was picked up by the police.

Hirarman said the victim has no intention of stealing the ring. In fact, he said the victim was employed as laundrywoman of Mayol for 18 years.

The victim was currently detained at a police station in Mandaue City for qualified theft.

“Okay ra kung dakpon. Nganung kailangan man gyud na bun-ogon. Pagpa-blotter  namo sa maong kaso, (ang biktima) naglisud gyud og lakaw. Sa akong pag- imbestiga akung nasuta nga gibali-bali siyag tamparos then gipatiran sa right part sa iyang body dapit sa gusok,” Hirarman said.  (FREEMAN)
