OFW nabbed for mauling, stabbing live-in partner

Russell Mae L. Ego-ogan - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - A 27-year-old overseas Filipino worker was arrested for mauling and stabbing his live-in partner inside a pension house in Bayabas St., Barangay Mambaling last Tuesday evening.

Police also recovered drug paraphernalia, a .45 caliber pistol, two magazines and 14 live ammunition from Nestor Aviso, a nursing graduate.

His alleged live-in partner, Soliel Sevilla, asked for police assistance after Aviso reportedly hit her in different parts of her body and struck her head with the handle of his gun.

Sevilla stated that after buying barbecue, she entered their apartment and saw that the suspect was very angry. Without saying anything, Aviso allegedly grabbed her hair and mauled her.

Aviso then took a knife and stabbed Sevilla many times, hitting her left and right arms, elbow, left wrist, and right leg. He even allegedly threatened to kill the victim if she reports the incident to the authorities.

Upon Aviso’s arrest, police discovered drug paraphernalia including two disposable lighters, two improvised  tooters and one tin foil in his room.

Sevilla also stated in her affidavit, she was forced that she and their neighbor Miriam Salizon were forced to sniff shabu with Aviso and were threatened that he will hurt them if they refuse.

Aviso said that the gun was from his friend who pawned it to him because they need money and added that it was not licensed.

“Bisag unsa ilang iprenda nako, akong dawaton. Niprenda man gani na sila nako og cell phone worth P3,000, gihatag nako ang kwarta pero wa nako dawata ang  cell phone  kay nisalig man ko nila nga ilang bayran, (I accept whatever they pawn me. They even pawned me a cellphone. I gave them the money but did not accept the phone because I trust that they will pay me),” said he.

Other items recovered from Aviso included a green T-shirt marked “Pulis”, a Criminology internship T-shirt and pawnshop receipts worth P200,000.

Aviso said the green T-shirt was from his former classmate who is now with the National Police Commission while the internship  T-shirt was owned by his brother who is a Criminology student.

PO2 Guilvi Canedo of Mambaling Police Station said Aviso did not resist arrest.

“Wala man ko kuyawi kay di man ko guilty. Mi-surrender gyud ko. Mi-video lang ko sa akong iPhone kay basin og naay iplanta nako,(I was not scared because I am not guilty. I surrendered. I just took a video with my iPhone because they might plant evidence against me),” said Aviso.

He added that he just had a misunderstanding with his live-in partner.

Aviso is an OFW from Saudi working as supervisor in an international coffee chain for almost two years. He met Sevilla in June just this year. He said she is pregnant by another man but still accepted her.

The victim is now recovering from her wounds and has filed charges against Aviso. — (FREEMAN)
