CEBU, Philippines - An errand boy of the Regional Special Operations Group- 7 was shot dead by unidentified gunman in Barangay Ermita yesterday morning.

Richard Cajegas, 38, was reportedly on his way back to the RSOG office from the market when he was killed at 10 am yesterday. PO1 Reoful Adalim of the Homicide Section said Cajegas, a resident of Barangay Labangon, went to Carbon Market to buy ingredients to cook for lunch when he got shot.

He was about to ride his motorcycle when the gunman approached and shot him five times.

“Gipusil siya unya pagkatumba, gitiwasan pa g’yud,” said a male witness.

The assailant, who stood about 5’4” in height, slim, fled after shooting Cajegas.

The victim, who sustained four gunshot wounds in the chest and one in the right cheek, died on the spot. Homicide investigator said he was shot at close range.

The victim was formally declared dead at 11:10 am by the doctors at the Cebu City Medical Center. Four empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol were recovered from the crime scene.

Adalim said they are still clueless as to the identity of the assailant. But they are eyeing personal grudge and illegal drugs as possible motives behind the killing.

The Homicide Section is still looking for possible witnesses because nobody has come forward to provide information.
