NBI to go after video uploader

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - In order to stop the circulation, distribution and sale of the sex video involving a female student of the University of San Jose-Recoletos, the student has sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation-7.

Yesterday, the student was accompanied by her mother and school officials vice president for academics Rev. Fr. Amado Emmanuel Bolilia,  director of the Students Affairs Office Jesus Velez, Assistant Dean of the College of Law Mae Elaine Bathan and adviser of Mass Communication Nestor Ramirez.

Bolilia said the student wants to file a case against those responsible for the uploading of the videos in a social networking site.

“I believe the bureau has all the mechanisms and facilities to track down the guy who uploaded this video. We are confident that this will help to close the issue,” he said.

He added the initiative in seeking the NBI’s assistance came from the student and her mother.

When asked if they had communicated with the school where the male student studied, Bolilia said no.  He added they appreciated the support from the University of Cebu, organizations and people who congratulated the school for standing by the student.

When asked if the student will be reporting back to school, Bolilia said the girl will not be going to school but they have made special arrangements for the remaining requirements for her to comply in order to graduate.

NBI Regional Director Antonio Pagatpat said they were taking cognizance of the case, he assigned agents Greg Algoso and Rey Villordon to investigate.

He added they will be tapping their central office and the Office of the Department of Justice in the matter.

Lawyer Inocencio de la Cerna has also announced his withdrawal from representing the student.

He said they got what they wanted after the school issued a statement that they will let the student graduate once she can comply with the necessary requirements. —/BRP (FREEMAN)
