Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A widower who police said often got drunk was arrested after he allegedly tried to rape his 12-year-old daughter at their house in Barangay Bago in the town of Asturias last Saturday dawn.

The 32-year-old suspect, who works as a trisikad driver, was arrested immediately after he molested the victim.

PO2 Cesar Climaco of Asturias Police, based on the investigation conducted, narrated that the drunk suspect arrived home at 4 a.m. last Saturday.

At that time, his daughters aged 12 and 11 were already sound asleep. The father went near her eldest daughter and allegedly inserted his finger in her genitals. The girl was awakened and shouted.

The younger sister also woke up and helped her sister get away from their father.

But the father allegedly mauled the girl, who sustained bruises  on her body.

Allegedly because of severe drunkenness, the suspect lay down on the bed and got asleep while the siblings went out and sought help from their aunt who lived nearby.

Still crying, the girl, accompanied by her aunt, reported the incident to the police, who then immediately arrested the suspect.

The suspect, upon getting sober, claimed that he didn’t know what he did while he was under the influence of liquor.

According to Climaco, the suspect’s wife recently just died, allegedly because of his behavior when he would get drunk.

Police are waiting for the medical result conducted on the victim for the filing of charges against the suspect, who is now detained at the Asturias Police detention cell. —JPM (FREEMAN)
