Diplomats, VIPs join Suroy-Suroy

CEBU, Philippines - Diplomats and businessmen are among the participants of a Suroy-Suroy Sugbo two-day tour called Enchanting Camotes, which will start today in the four towns of Camotes Island.

New Chinese Consul-General Zhang Weiguo, Korea Electric Power Company Vice President Moon Jong Woo and Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association in Cebu President and Marco Polo Plaza General Manager Hans Hauri are among the special guests, said Elizabeth Francia, executive assistant of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Francia said that the special guests are also bringing other guests like Hauri who has some Japanese tourists with him.

Around 200 local and foreign tourists are expected to join Garcia and other local government officials in the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo today.

Francia said that local tourists make up most of the participants.

“Suroy-Suroy is generating such interest even to our locals. We are fulfilling the objective of bringing tourism in the countryside,” Francia said.

The Suroy-Suroy Sugbo is now on its fourth year bringing local and foreign tourists to the countryside, where many have never been before, in a voyage of discovery.

The delegation will depart Cebu City at 8 a.m. today.

The tourist spots to be visited are the Bukilat Cave in Tudela; Buho Rock Resort in Poro; Lake Danao, Santiago Bay and Mangodlong Resort in San Francisco.

Tomorrow, the group will cross the isolated island of Pilar town where a Mass will be held. There will also be a heritage walk to ancestral houses and a bee farm before the return to Poro then to Cebu City.

Aside from foods and delicacies to be offered to guests, local performers will also entertain them during every stop. — (FREEMAN)
