DOLE holds job fairs for fresh graduates

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE7) Regional Director Atty. Ma. Gloria A. Tango is urging graduating secondary students and jobseekers to check their qualifications first before applying for jobs.

Tango said that jobseekers must look into their qualifications first because there are plenty of available jobs in the labor market that will suit them.

“If the courses taken are not in demand, one must always look for alternatives that can suit his/her qualifications,” Tango said.

However, Tango encouraged jobseekers not to be frustrated over the limited options saying there will always be available options coupled with prayers and hard work.

She also suggested that job seekers visit their website.

“If job fairs are far away, they can always log on to the www.phil-job.net for easy access to all ready jobs in the entire country anytime of the day or night,” Tango said as she explained DOLE will be conducting a series of job fairs this month geared towards providing opportunities for graduating tertiary students.

On March 8, a jobs fair will be held at the University of Southern Philippines while a local and overseas jobs fair will be held on March 12 in San Miguel, Bohol.

March 15, another local and overseas jobs fair will be held in Poro, Camotes and on March 17, at the Cebu Doctors University while the Cebu City Government will also have a jobs fair on March 24; Cebu Province will hold an overseas jobs fair on March 25 and on March 31, another local and overseas jobs fair will be held in the municipality of Lilo-an.

For the graduating secondary students, Director Tango advocated the DOLE Project Jobs Fit, wherein the following are identified as the in-demand jobs until year 2020: Agribusiness; Cyber Services; Health, Wellness and Medical Tourism; Hotel and Restaurant; Mining; Construction; Banking and Finance; Manufacturing; Ownership Dwelling and Real/Retirement Estate Selling; Transport and Logistics; Wholesale and Retail; and Overseas Employment.

Tango said that these identified jobs are ready markets for graduates of related courses and they expect a much higher hiring rate.

Director Tango also identified the emerging industries that employ a lot of jobseekers which include Creative Industries like Broadcast Engineers, Video Editors, Video Graphic Arts and Video Graphic Designers; Diversified/Strategic Farming and Fishing like Aqua-culturists, Horticulturists, High Valued Crop Farmers; Power and Utilities like Electrical Control Operators, Equipment Operators, Electrical Technicians and Mechanics; Renewable Energy (checker/loader); Creative Industries (3D Modelers, 3D Artists, 3D Animators, Flash Animators); Mechanical Technician; and Quality Control Engineer.
