2 men shot dead in separate incidents

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - A 30-year-old man was shot dead in Barangay Calamba, Cebu City while a young man was shot dead in Argao town yesterday.

Andres Carpila, a resident of Barangay Sambag 2, was reportedly shot dead by a certain Marlon Kimpang in Quijano Compund, Barangay Calamba at past 10pm yesterday.

Investigation showed that Carpila was walking together with his live-in partner supposedly to buy food when the suspect approached the victim and a heated argument ensued between them.

Moments later, the suspect stabbed Carpila with a knife and subsequently shot him. The suspect fled toward Barangay Guadalupe as the victim fell to the ground.

Carpila succumbed to a stab wound on his stomach and two gunshot wounds on his left arm and chest. He was declared dead by personnel of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF).

Carpila’s live-in-partner told the police that the victim and the suspect harbored personal grudge against each other when they were still inside the Cebu City Jail.

Police tried to search for the suspect but to no avail. Personnel of the Crime Scene Investigation Unit recovered a fan knife at the crime scene.

Carpila’s remains were taken to the St. Francis Funeral Homes for post mortem examination.

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Julie Datuin also died instantly when an unidentified person shot him in Barangay Oba-on, Argao town at 2am yesterday.

Police said the victim, a resident of Barangay Mabasa, was sitting on a bench outside a store when an unidentified person suddenly approached and shot him.

The Argao police are still trying to determine the motive behind the attack, which they believe to be a case of thrill or “paregla” since the victim had no derogatory record in their barangay. — (FREEMAN)
