15-year-old shot by neighbor, critical

CEBU, Philippines - A 15-year-old boy is fighting for his life in one of the hospitals in Cebu City after he was shot on the stomach by his neighbor in Barangay Poblacion, Danao City late Thursday night.

Eugene Palma, a resident of Barangay Looc of the same city, was transferred to the hospital here because of his critical condition.

PO2 Marlon Remullo of the Danao City Police Station said their investigation showed that the victim was attending a benefit dance in Mabini Street when the suspect, identified as Ian Laguna, arrived around 11pm and shot Palma.

The victim was hit on his stomach and was rushed by responding policemen to the Danao District Hospital for immediate treatment. He was later transferred to a hospital here to undergo surgery on his fatal wound.

Remullo said the suspect, a resident also of Barangay Looc, fled on foot and eluded arrest. Personal grudge was believed to be the motive behind the incident.

The police official said the suspect is a known toughie in their place. (FREEMAN)
