No bail for rape suspect

- Mylen P. Manto -

CEBU, Philippines – A woman who claimed she was raped inside her boyfriend's house in sitio Luan-luan, barangay Poblacion 1, Carcar City, Cebu filed a criminal case before the Regional Trial Court against a friend of her boyfriend.

The woman, a resident of 24 Bontores, Basak Pardo, Cebu City filed a case against Bobby Manlangit, 24.

Prosecutor 1 Ferdinand Collantes recommended no bail for Manlangit.

In her affidavit, she said that last July 20, 2010, she went with her boyfriend Emanuel Sanchez to his house in Carcar. Sanchez was drinking that night with Manlangit and another friend, Jason Alesna.

When it was already late, Sanchez brought his girlfriend inside a room so she could sleep ahead while he and his friends transferred to another place to continue drinking.

At around 3:30 dawn, the woman was startled when a person lay beside her but she just thought it was her boyfriend, so she did not mind until the man started to touch her private parts and undressed her.

It was when she realized that the man was not her boyfriend, so she immediately pushed him away and she stood up. However, the man, who she later learned was Manlangit, had a knife and pulled her hair, pointing the knife at her neck, and threatened to kill her. She was then forced on the bed and raped at knife point.

When he was done, he stood up and still with the knife in his hand, threatened to kill the woman. It was at this point that she screamed for help so Manlangit ran towards the window of the room and jumped then fled.

Sanchez's parents and sister ran towards the room where she slept, and she told them about what happened.

Sanchez's parents reported the incident to the Carcar City Police Station. (THE FREEMAN)
