LPs in Mandaue waiting to be offered key posts?

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - Are some party mates of President Elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino in the sixth district looking forward to getting key positions in the national government after the president-elect is sworn into office on June 30?

Sixth district LP president Ariston “Baludong” Cortes who ran and lost in the elections to Luigi Quisumbing for representative of the sixth district yesterday said although there have been no offers yet for him he believes there’s a possibility some of these key positions might be given to party mates here.

Cortes said there are about 4,000 key positions including those in government-controlled corporations that would be filled up.

He said if he were offered a position, he would accept it.

“Why not if gusto sila nga makatabang ta sa ruling party?” Baludong said.

He said some fellow party mates describe him to having the potential to run the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

However, both Baludong and his brother Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes believe that Hilario “Junjun” Davide, the gubernatorial candidate for the province who recently lost also to reelectionist Governor Gwendoloyn Garcia is already assured of a key position in the Aquino administration.

“Kay in terms of candidates man gud si Junjun dyud naay pangutan-on, sure na dyud sad nga naa siya’y posisyon and he will take care of the rest kun kinsay mga angayan nga mahatagan og posisyon,” Baludong said.

Mayor Cortes said although there has been no commitment between him and Aquino, but being a good soldier he will deliver whatever the President asks him to.

Cortes said he is thankful to the president-elect and the LP because during the times that he badly needed help it was the party that welcomed him with open arms.

Cortes and his slate ran as independent candidates during the filing of their certificates of candidacy last November after the Lakas-CMD party decided to support his rival Nerissa Soon Ruiz.

Weeks after the filing of their COC’s, the Cortes slate was invited to join the LP.

The Liberal Party in Mandaue City delivered 60 percent of the votes of the more than one million votes for Aquino.

“Personally there was no commitment with Noynoy and as a good soldier mo-deliver lang ta kay sa panahon nga kita nanginahanglan og panabang it was LP that helped me, so there must be a symbiotic relationship,” Mayor Cortes said.

If the president would decide to deliver some projects to the city, Cortes said he would prefer to prioritize the construction of a fly-over along Plaridel Street up to United Nations Avenue to decongest traffic at the national highway. (FREEMAN NEWS)
