City to confer award on outstanding electrician

-

CEBU, Philippines – The Cebu City government will confer the national award given by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority to an electrician of the Metro Cebu Water District.

Acting mayor Michael Rama has already approved the recommendation to confer the award given to 36-year-old Cesar Pelarca, now working as a senior electrician of the MCWD.

Pelarca was recently awarded the prestigious President Ramon Magsaysay Outstanding Filipino Workers Award 2008 in the wage-employed category in Manila.

MCWD Board chairman Juan Saul Montecillo even recommended that Pelarca be awarded during the Cebu City Charter day last February 24, but Rama said he wants him to be awarded during the flag-raising ceremony at the City Hall on May 4.

The city officials also wanted to confer the award to Pelarca during the celebration of Labor Day on May 1, but because it is a holiday the event will be made on May 4.

Montecillo said aside from his award that was given in Manila, Pelarca was also adjudged as the most outstanding Filipino worker in Central Visayas that made him qualified to join the national award contest.

Councilor Edgardo Labella has already submitted a resolution that will be taken up on Wednesday’s regular session to formalize the conferment of the award.

Pelarca was recognized by TESDA for his inventions in the field of electronics as well as his involvement in social and civic activities from his previous and present employment.

The Magsaysay Award will be given to those who have achieved exemplary performance in the application of the competencies gained from their education and training and who have continuously upgraded themselves through practice of lifelong learning. — Rene U. Borromeo/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
