Globe dismisses call to apologize

-

CEBU, Philippines - Globe Telecom has dismissed the call of Miss Cebu 2009 TV production manager Bruce Bollozos for the company and the Cebu City Tourism Commission to apologize publicly regarding the Globe Texter’s Choice fiasco.

Globe senior executive Jerry Yntig said it is unreasonable for them to issue a public apology because Globe never confirmed that Miss Cebu eventual winner Kris Tiffany Janson was the recipient of the Globe Texter’s Choice award.

Yntig earlier explained Globe is also a victim of the controversy, considering that he, himself, did not have prior knowledge of the real recipient when he went up the stage to give the award during the pageant night.

That night, the pageant host announced Janson was the Globe Texter’s Choice when in fact the real winner was second runner up Kimberly Therese Burden. Bollozos has since admitted mixing up the names and apologized for the error.

But Yntig lamented Globe should not be faulted for the fiasco because they were merely supporting it and never had any control of the whole proceedings.

Yntig alleged Bollozos lied when the latter claimed that Globe did not set up a system for the text voting near the stage to help the Miss Cebu 2009 production team and to make the text votes clear to everyone.

Globe reportedly offered to set up a system but Bollozos allegedly refused it.

But while Globe would reportedly continue to support the Miss Cebu pageant, Yntig said they would no longer have anyone outside Globe to make the announcement of the Texter’s Choice.

He said the company has decided it should be an officer or official representative of Globe that would make the announcement to avoid controversies.

Likewise, Globe has reportedly decided to stop working with Bollozos in other projects.— Fred P. Languido/JMO   (THE FREEMAN)
