Celebrating Dad around the metro

Dezsa C. Rubio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - As the kids were growing up, Dad was usually the best

playmate there was. He was always ready with something out of the ordinary, often out of the blue. He was, in an instant, his little boy’s sidekick agent or his little girl’s pirate nemesis on an imaginary enchanted island.

The various characters he plays with his kids may have changed through the years, although he remains the dear dad he always was. And so today, Father’s Day, may be a good chance for a glimpse back to the superhero or safari explorer he used to be. Certain activities and places can bring back in those fun times with Daddy.

The following ideas from www.skycanner.com can well be adopted for a fun Father’s Day with Dad around Metro Cebu:

Fishing

It might have been a long time since Dad last showed off his fishing skills. Father and son can have a great bonding time fishing, just the two of them ‘boys’. They may have the time all to themselves for some meaningful conversation – interspersed with manly bragging as to whoever has the biggest catch.

Well, fishing doesn’t actually have to be limited to the guys. Fathers and daughters or the whole family may enjoy the activity together and a delicious meal afterwards. Papa Kit’s Marina & Fishing Lagoon in nearby Liloan, in northern Cebu, is a good place for fishing. Aside from the lagoon that teems with fishes, there’s also facilities for the guests to cook their catch afterwards. The lagoon-resort also offers other activities such as ATV rides, zip-lining, obstacle courses and horseback riding.

Nature Tripping

For the father who is wild deep at heart, a time in the outdoors looks like a good treat. Cebu offers a variety of places to explore for nature tripping. Dad may feel invincible for a day by engaging in rousing outdoor activities in Danasan Eco Park, in Danao City. The place is sure to be a delight for fathers who love the thrill in trekking and rappelling in waterfalls, exploring caves, and daring to try wakeboarding.

Golfing

A game of golf offers Dad both adventure and pampering. The family is sure willing to allow golfer Dad a day at the golf course enjoying his time. A good treat for him would be a trip to one of Cebu’s finest golf courses like the Alta Vista Golf Course, an 18-hole golf course designed by legendary pro golfer, Gary Player.

Kayaking

Of course, the beach is always an option. Aside from the usual swimming, a good tweak to the beach fun is to go kayaking. The small and narrow kayaks, if available, are able to reach off-beaten paths, just right for curious men who want to explore the seaside ‘nooks and crannies’. And there’s no need to go far – the shorelines at Mactan offer such places to explore in between the various resorts where the family can relax afterwards.

Pub-Hopping

Dads have generally been associated with beer drinking. Actually, a man doesn’t have to be a drunk to enjoy beer. With many men, it’s not even about the drinking – the slight alcohol in beer loosens them up. Beer is a good stress reliever and often, with good company, a few sips can spur a meaningful conversation. Thus, pub-hopping might be a good way to celebrate the day for dad and the grownup kids in the family. Premium craft beer is served in Craft Cafebar at Banilad Town Center. The Park Social in I.T. Park, in Barangay Apas, is also a good place to wine and dine.

Distillery Tour

For a fancier evening celebration, the whole family may celebrate with Dad in a wine-tasting or distillery tour. This activity is especially exciting for the liquor connoisseur dads. The family may travel the world together in one night tasting and enjoying different international brews and spirits at The Distiller Cebu in Crossroads, along Archbishop Reyes Avenue. Families may wine and dine at the French restaurant La Vie Parisienne along Gorordo Avenue.

Those are just a few suggestions. Families may think up the kind of celebration that best fits their own man-of-the-house. The possibilities are endless.
