How to manage work problems

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Picture this: After months of being unemployed, you fortunately managed to find the job you've been dreaming of. But after several months of working in your dream company, what was supposed to be your dream job became your worst nightmare - you performed poorly; your boss kept on complaining about your work and you didn't get along well with your overly competitive colleagues. So to end the frustrating situation you were in, the first thing that came into your mind was hand to your boss your resignation letter.

Is this the right approach to your problem at work?

In life, especially with your jobs or chosen vocations, you sometimes experience sorrow, encounter problems or come under extreme pressure. Why do you think these happen? This is because you do not realize that you are not aligning yourself and what you do with time, nature and, most especially, God.

If you decide to cooperate with these three major forces of energy - time, nature and God - they will also cooperate with you. And when they do - when they really do - you'll experience the real and spiritual magic, helping you to thoroughly accept and understand the situation you are in, which will eventually help you to come up with better solutions.

Aside from aligning yourself with the three major forces of energy, always have the willingness to work with the process of growth. Always have an open mind that accepts criticisms.  Accept what your boss says to you and learn from it so that the next time you do your work, you wouldn't be committing the same mistake again.

Furthermore, remember that good and positive things are not always attained immediately. It requires time and process for you to master your skills. Sometimes you have to act fast, but there are also times when you need to wait.

Waiting for good results involves patience. If you are more patient, you will not experience so much pressure. Instead, you'll create a space for time, for ideas, for experiences, and for God to come and occupy that space. You'll be amazed that what happens is much better than what you expected.

In the workplace, it is very difficult to perform a task without considering your relationship with coworkers.  But if your coworkers don't like to be with you because they see you as a threat, you must learn to let them be without holding it against them.

Remember that, like you, they are spiritual beings that need to be respected for whatever decisions they make in their lives. Don't worry because in the process you'll get to know people who are really meant to be not just your colleagues but also be your friends. And when you do, you should also learn to recognize their roles. Because you can only effectively cooperate with them if you respect them and the tasks they are assigned to do.

Align your work with nature and God. You should know when to step in and move forward and when to step back and wait. Meanwhile, offer the fruits of your work to God because if you offer your fruits of hardwork to a human being with the purpose of pleasing him or her, you might be exposing yourself to unnecessary feelings of disappointment due to possible rejection. But if you please God, He will certainly be pleased with you also.

In addition, observe balance in your work. This means that you integrate harmony, order and peace in your work and workplace.

In performing a task, if you always consider it as work, it becomes heavy. Remember that 'worry' means thinking more and doing nothing; 'concern' means doing more, thinking less; and 'problem' means taking more, thinking less and doing nothing.

It is alright to be to be concerned with things and people, but do not worry about them. It is said that our problems are created three to four feet below our hips, and all the solutions are found six to eight inches above our heads. All you have to do is access the spiritual powers up there, nearer to God.

Don't give up easily. Try to do all other possible solutions to resolve your problems at work. If plan A and B don't work out, remember that the alphabet has 25 letters, and you still have plans C to Z to resort to.
