Five “As” of Andy Hotel, Adorable. Affordable. Amazing. Alluring. Awesome.

Maria Eleanor E. Valeros - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - These adjectives form part of the room brand names of Andy Hotel, the newest business class hotel in Mandaue City aspiring to establish itself as a leading business class hotel in the region by 2020, committed to provide exceptional customer service with the warmth of Filipino hospitality.

In a recent tour, general manager Barbie Romeo-Guardiario assisted by her staff Oliver Niño Buhay showed The FREEMAN the hotel’s Adorable Standard Room, Affordable Deluxe Room, Amazing Superior Room, Alluring Executive Suite, and Awesome Family Room dedicated to meet the needs of their market: the businesspeople and the traveling families.

“We purposely attach an adjective to describe the feel of each room. It perks up the interest of our guests,” Guardiario said.

She cited for an example the Awesome Family Room which is good for five to six persons. This is the bestseller because even non-blood related people converge here to unwind. “This is a favorite among call center workers who just want to relax.” It has an inner room to it with one Queen-sized bed (61” x 75”) and a cable TV (LED/plasma screen). The first room has two Queen-sized beds, a spacious toilet, and a cable TV. All for P2,580 a night.

A favorite among businessmen is the Alluring Executive Suite. Added features like the balcony/smoking area and mini refrigerator make it more alluring to people who want to share a room with pals or colleagues (good for four pax). This is also the choice for bridal makeup sessions because of the required extra space to conduct makeovers for the entourage.

Aside from projecting good vibes by not stooping down to the level of short-time stops, Andy Hotel also takes pride in its security innovation. “If you switch on to Channel 1 of our LED TVs, it will connect you to our CCTV at the lobby. So the moment somebody looks for you downstairs, our front office would call you up and check if you know the person. This way we would preempt attempts to inflict harm on our guests,” Guardiario stressed. “Our security guards and bellmen even go to the extent of assisting our guests in withdrawing from ATMs, hailing taxicabs or jeepneys to ensure they are safe.”

“I think that our Channel 1 is one of our best features. I believe we have trailblazed on that aspect here in Cebu,” she added.

The Function Room was not included in the initial building plan, so it is situated at rooftop. We offer packages to counter the inconvenient location by waiving certain corkage fees to events should organizers prefer to tap outside catering service,” she assured.

The area can hold 80-100 people with a basic function room rental fee of P6,000 for six hours. Should the event opt to hold a discotheque, the area is equipped with disco lights. The rental fee goes up to P15,000 for 130-150 persons if the event is extended to the covered balcony.

All in all, the hotel has 71 rooms with Wi-Fi connection with two high-speed elevators. Along all hallways of the seven-storey infrastructure, purified water dispensers are stationed.

Another facility that was not in the original plan is the Mang Cape coffee shop. “We didn’t really intend to have a coffee shop, or a restaurant for that matter, because major fast food outlets are operating in the vicinity. We thought nga di mo-click. But in the long run, guests began looking for something to eat without the hassle of going out. So the owner added Mang Cape to our lobby,” Guardiario explained.

“He is bent on offering Pinoy dishes because that would be marketing our local foods to foreign guests. Pag Pinoy sad ang guests, they would normally look for something simple and familiar.”

Among these dishes are the Pinoy Beef Steak, Crispy Pork Belly, Binagoongang Baboy, Pinoy Pandan Chicken, Breaded Chicken Tenders, and Cebu’s Best Danggit Meal. They also carry delicacies like caycay (peanut cookies) and budbud (made of glutinous rice), as well as dried mangoes.

Moreover, Guardiario shared that being a hotel closest to the Cebu International Convention Center is an edge. “That’s really a lot of help to us since we have not gone beyond 30 percent in occupancy rate gikan pag-open namo January of last year. Lately, we reached our maximum capacity of 200 pax when CICC became the venue for the world food expo,” she explained.

As for long-staying guests, like specialists or consultant-engineers (foreign nationalities), the hotel offers the Standard Room at P888 per night.

Guests who stay for two nights or more get to enjoy a 10 percent off, or a breakfast good for two persons. “If the guest is on his own, he can avail of the other meal during lunchtime or dinner, whichever he prefers.” (FREEMAN)
