The Salt Grotto

MOMMY ON BOARD - Kristalle Garcia-Kekert - The Freeman

This small attraction that I was drawn to take my toddler to is a salt crystal-covered grotto called Salzgrotte located in Potsdam, Germany. Together with cozy lighting and soothing music in a relaxing atmosphere made essential for healing benefits, we booked Harvey for a beneficial children’s session (with adult supervision). Due to the relatively high amount of people visiting this attraction, we were very lucky to be accommodated.

Used mainly for healing purposes to boost the immune system and help improve concentration, this Salt Grotto, using the salt taken from the Dead Sea, is well-equipped with lounge chairs to accommodate at least a dozen adults plus children. A small waterfall is also built-in for moisture and its calming sounds. The 45-minute salt therapy session includes socializing with others of the same age range at a chosen time that involves play in the sand-like salt with the use of shovels, buckets, sifters, blocks, toy cars, trucks, bricks and other beach play sets. Regular clothing is worn all throughout, as well as provided footwear or any white or lightly-colored socks to avoid salt discoloration. More importantly, children don’t even realize what good this can do for their breathing, that the naturally salty air with micro-particles (you can even taste it) is absolutely excellent for their respiratory system. It’s a combination of having fun and being healthy at the same time, what more can a parent ask for?!

Inside the grotto, the clean, dry and salty air is being circulated to maintain the same level of beneficial minerals to create a feeling of freshness, so your visit is no different from the next.Saturated with compounds of brome, calcium, iodine, magnesium, potassium, selenium, sodium and other compounds, this helps keep up with the supply of minerals required for the human body.A medicine method based on inhalation, full of these minerals is called the Halo Therapy. The importance of a Salt Grotto is being at least 10 times cleaner than the air we normally breathe in and apart from its minerals, it can also help treat or prevent the following illnesses such as asthma, bronchitis, digestive problems, depression, eczema, exhaustion, headaches, heart problems, high blood pressure, migraines, nervousness, pneumonia, sinuses, skin allergies, stomach ulcers, stress, thyroid dysfunction and many more! It can also prevent skin aging and wrinkles.

Health is happiness. Great for a positive effect on a person’s overall well-being, it was a pleasure to have my son Harvey experience the amazing warm comfort of being inside a Salt Grotto as well as taking the opportunity to play and make friends with other children all for good health!
