A footsy indulgence

- Maria Eleanor E. Valeros -

CEBU, Philippines - Tired calloused feet beg for a much-deserved pampering session after the seemingly ceaseless romping and ramping this summer.

Mine's been kicking for a good foot grooming regimen after this reliable pair sent me on top of Luzon's highest point – Mount Pulag – recently.

Attendants at the B & G Beauty and Grace Regimen (2nd floor of Parkmall) began the foot care spa with a scrub. This allows for the exfoliating of dead skin cells with the use of sea salt. Applying the salt in circular motions sent that tickling sensation, but it's very good for promotion of blood circulation (so have to giggle in silence!) in the terminal portion of the human anatomy very much responsible in bearing our weight and allowing locomotion.

Rinsing the fine grains of salt off with lukewarm water is very relaxing. Benefits of foot scrubbing include making the skin soft and supple.

Once dead skin cells were removed with a foot file, a foot massage followed with the use of moisturizing oil. The purpose is to restore the moisture lost in the foot soak prior to the scrub.

Next step was a super-duper relieving foot massage. The wellness attendant began to pat dry, a foot at a time, with a soft towel. She then applied essential oil, moving her hands up and down the legs, around the ankles, to the soles and in between the toes. After which the strokes from the toes to the ankles, to the instep and soles, increase in pressure. Circular motions of the thumb and fingers even to the side of each foot make for soothing relief after a heavy-impact climb. I could now sense that big grin and great gratitude that the body's most wonderfully made machines would want to convey!

Pressure – even though slightly applied - to the heel region or ball of the feet is another story, though. There is an amount of pain, but can be tolerated anyway.

Kneading the sole is one facet of the foot massage that one should enjoy. There's that "anesthetic" sensation to it. That's why B & G Regimen makes sure you are seated in comfy reclined chairs, as sleep is a natural response to the stimulus.

After an hour of foot care and another 30 minutes of pedicure (nail care and polish), there smile my happy feet!

This service is up for P280 only through a summer promo. Manicure and pedicure come for free. Enough to convince you that it's time to worship your beautiful feet.

A session of foot spa may also be availed through the Indulgence Package at P888 with one session of collagen facial, anti-freckle and whitening treatment (European style facial massage), and an hour of aromatherapy body massage.  (FREEMAN)
