Frozen Swirl: Healthy treat from The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

CEBU, Philippines - Almost everyone is now health conscious. Thus, the popularity of health drinks, healthy food and activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.

Yogurt is one of the many healthy food items that have become famous recently and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf also has its own handcrafted yogurt called Frozen Swirl for its health conscious patrons.

Frozen Swirl was first served in The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in California early last year, according to CBTL Managing Director Allen Arvin Tan. The Philippines and Singapore are part of the test markets of CBTL so the products were then brought to these countries. “Frozen Swirl has been served in CBTL branches in Manila since last year. It took long for it to be available in Cebu because of the machine,” he said, adding that Frozen Swirl is only available at CBTL The Terraces branch for now.

Frozen Swirl is a good source of protein and calcium because it is made with non-fat milk and plain non-fat yogurt. It is low in calories and fat and has active live cultures that aid in digestion.

Tan explained that there are two base flavors for the Frozen Swirl – The Original and the Classic Vanilla. The Original is made from original Tart flavored yogurt while the Classic Vanilla is made from sweet tasting yogurt.

There are five flavors made from each of the base flavors. For The Original, the flavors are Lemoncello (refreshing lemon zest swirled with the Original), Berry’d Treasure (strawberry, raspberry and blackberry juices swirled with The Original), Pomegranate (pomegranate juice swirled with The Original), and Banana Caramel (sweet banana juice and caramel sauce swirled with The Original). For the Classic Vanilla, the flavors are Hazelnut (Italian hazelnut swirled with Classic Vanilla), Affogato (Classic Vanilla topped with freshly extracted espresso), Caramel Affogato (Classic Vanilla topped with freshly extracted espresso, drizzled with caramel sauce) and Matcha Green Tea (CBTL’s signature Matcha Green Tea swirled with Classic Vanilla).

Tan added that Frozen Swirl comes in regular and large sizes that range from P135 to P185 per order. The bestsellers, he said, are the Affogato for the caramel based and the Berry’d Treasure for the original based.

“We’ve spent a lot of care to developing the flavor of our proprietary Frozen Swirl that cannot be imitated. We are also dedicated to developing recipes that feature our proprietary espresso and green tea, which already have a popular fan base. Additionally, Frozen Swirl has life active cultures which can have great health benefits,” he said.

CBTL is located at The Terraces at the Ayala Center Cebu, The Northwing of the SM City Cebu, the I.T. Park and at the Robinsons Cybergate. Frozen Swirl is served only at The Terraces.
