LNGPH, Mitsubishi Power seal gas turbine support deal

MANILA, Philippines — LNGPH, the multibillion-dollar gas venture of Manuel V. Pangilinan, Ramon Ang and Sabin Aboitiz, has tapped Japan’s Mitsubishi Power to ensure the reliable operation of its large gas-fired facility in Batangas.

LNGPH and Mitsubishi Power’s after-sales arm, MHI Power (Philippines) Plant Services Corp. (MHI-PSC), have signed a long-term parts and services agreement (LTPSA) for the 1,278-megawatt Ilijan combined-cycle power plant.

Under the deal, MHI-PSC will support plant operations by supplying critical components and services, including hot and spare parts, repairs and technical advisory support for the M501G gas turbines.

The M501G series are heavy-duty turbines developed by Mitsubishi Power, widely used in combined-cycle power plants for efficient, large-scale electricity generation.

Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific managing director and CEO Akihiro Ondo said the latest deal reflects more than two decades of dependable performance from the company’s gas turbines at the Ilijan plant.

“Through this long-term partnership with LNGPH and SPPC, we are not only maintaining vital infrastructure, but ultimately are helping provide stable, flexible power generation to meet the Philippines’ evolving needs for decades to come,” he said.

The gas facility, operated by LNGPH corporate unit South Premiere Power Corp. (SPPC), has served as a reliable source of baseload power for the Luzon grid.

“This LTPSA represents more than a long-term agreement, as it reflects a decades-long partnership built on trust, operational excellence and a shared commitment to energy security,” LNGPH president and CEO Yari Miralao said.

“Together with Mitsubishi Power, we will continue enhancing the reliability and efficiency of our assets to help power the Philippines’ long-term economic growth,” Miralao said.

LNGPH represents the $3.3-billion investment of Chromite Gas Holdings Inc., a joint venture between Pangilinan’s Meralco PowerGen Corp. and Aboitiz-owned Therma Natgas Power Inc., along with Ang-led San Miguel Global Power Holdings Corp.

The power giants sealed the landmark deal last year to launch the country’s first and largest integrated liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility.

The venture includes an integrated LNG import and regasification terminal and a gas-to-power complex with a total installed capacity of 2.5 gigawatts in Batangas.
