"Thelma" opens today amidst Maja-Matteo-Coco controversy

- Ricky L. Calderon -

Maja Salvador’s launching film "Thelma" opens today in theaters nationwide amidst the controversy of the fistfight that occurred between Matteo Guidicelli (whom Maja admitted in The Buzz is her boyfriend) and Coco Martin (her co-star in the top-rating series Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin).

Matteo had apologized on national TV via Happy Yippee Yehey on Monday while Coco has remained silent on the matter. On the other hand, Maja didn’t grant an interview to the media who attended the premiere night of "Thelma" last Sunday, saying that she had said everything that needed to be said on The Buzz.

Will the issue involving Maja and the two guys entice the public to come and watch Thelma who, according to those who were able to watch, is an excellent piece of work and that Maja should be in contention for acting awards next year?

Eugene Domingo says it’s already beyond her control when her movies clash at the box-office. Last week, Zombadings 1: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington and Star Cinema’s "Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi" opened on theaters simultaneously. While Eugene would probably not have wanted her movies to be pitted against each other, there’s no way that such an occurrence can be avoided. The actress herself was surprised at the turn of events.

Happily though, both movies made good at the box-office. In fact, Star Cinema even hosted a victory party for the success of Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi, while Zombadings also made a good run at the box-office as it even added more theaters as the days went on.

Eugene is looking forward to taking a much-needed break from her busy schedule. She always does that after a film of hers is shown. She is taking a break after she goes to Toronto where her award-winning film "Ang Babae sa Septic Tank" will be screened. Then she goes to New York for rest and recreation.

"Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi" is her third project with Wendell Ramos (they did two TV shows together) but this is their first big screen teamup. "It’s very easy to get comfortable with Wendell because he’s very comfortable with his body so madadala ka talaga pag may eksena kayo," Eugene explains.

"I can easily adjust to our scenes because there are no inhibitions whatsoever. We give our all in every scene but once the director says cut, wala na rin iyon," she added.

When told that she and Wendell look good together (Toni Gonzaga, her co-star in the Joey Reyes movie for Star Cinema, said they really look like husband and wife in the film) Eugene just smiled. "Wendell is kind of naughty. May pabulong-bulong. But should I encourage that? Should I take that seriously? Siguro kung kumagat eh kaso wala naman. He’s fun to work with," added Eugene.

She hasn’t had a manager for quite some time and she thinks the setup is working for her. She’s the one talking when it comes to her career.

"I think nagwo-work sa akin ngayon na diretso akong nakikipag-usap. Most of the people that I work with or yung mga nakaka-transaction ko ay nakatrabaho ko na for the longest time so madali ko nang nasasabi, nakakapaglambing ako. Nakakapag-request ako fortunately but I have my team. I have people to coordinate for the calendar, for the creative people like the makeup artist, the stylist, to deal with that. Hindi ko sinasabi na iyon ang gawin ng ibang artista. Baka sa akin effective iyon. Siguro in maybe two or three years, I may need a manager."

Before she leaves for her trip abroad, Eugene is set to finish her scenes for the Nora Aunor series on TV5 titled Sa Ngalan ng Ina. She’s also slated to report on the set of the OctoArts movie My Househusband which stars Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo under the direction of Jose Javier Reyes again.

Everybody’s favorite Mommy is back! Mommy Elvie Villasanta, or Mommy Elvie as known to all, is happy to say that she has missed taping and all the perks that she gets being surrounded by the production crew and under the "spotlight." Because of the success of her docu-reality-comedy series Mommy Elvie @ 18, it looks like the universe has conspired to make sure our octogenarian comes back to our TV screens in Mommy Elvie @ 18 season 2.

Mommy Elvie’s only son Ariel, of the dynamic duo Ariel and Maverick, stars with her in this 30-minute show airing every Saturday at 10:30 a.m. on GMA News TV Channel 11.

In season 1, after her home is swept away by typhoon Ondoy and living to tell about it, Mommy Elvie realizes that there are still other things that she hasn’t done yet. So she decides to make a bucket list of 18 things she still would like to do – which include personal (to work with Dolphy – the Comedy King, to dance the boogie, to eat everything she wants including her favorite lechon, her own ice cream commercial) and seemingly benevolent (peace on earth, home for the homeless, food for everyone, meeting President Noynoy Aquino) acts.

On its second season, aside from fulfilling the rest of her 18 wishes, Mommy Elvie decides to give her only son Ariel her last will and testament. This is not your usual last will. She’s leaving the house, the car to Ariel, but there’s a catch. "Lahat ito mapupunta sa iyo sa isang kundisyon – magpakabait ka.’
