Dbtc Presents Zephyrin, The Musicale

Since 2001, Don Bosco Technology Center has been consistent in producing all-original youth musicals that are both entertaining and inspiring. But this year’s offering, another all-original youth musical intriguingly entitled “ZEPHYRIN,” will prove to be their most colorful and ambitious yet to date. Set in the exotic pampas of Argentina in late 18th century, the musical celebrates the life and death of Zepherin Namuncura, son of a native chieftain, recently beatified last November 11, 2007 and hailed by the Salesian of Don Bosco’s Rector Major, Fr. Pascual Chavez Villanueva, as a “fruit of Salesian Youth Spirituality.”

In a recent publication, Fr. Villanueva writes further on the merits of Namuncura’s beatification: “A saint is never like a meteorite that unexpectedly flashes across the sky of humanity, but is rather the fruit of a long and silent gestation in a family, and in a people whose best qualities are expressed in that son of theirs.”

Directed by Cebu’s premiere director Daisy Baad, with original songs and script written by the prolific Jude Gitamondoc (who sweeped both the Grand and Second Prizes in the recent Cebu Popular Music Festival), the musical also features powerhouse local talents like Roy Empleo (host of Kapamilya, Winner Ka), seasoned thespian Atty. Philip Landicho, and Don Bosco’s own 12-year-old singing sensation, Levin Inez, alongside other upcoming talents from DBTC’s own high school and college students as well as talents from other Salesian settings.
