Pacio high on Zamboanga’s ONE title hopes vs Stamp
MANILA, Philippines – “It’s her time.”
Filipino ONE strawweight MMA world champion Joshua Pacio is rooting for fellow Filipino mixed martial artist Denice Zamboanga to win the ONE atomweight MMA world championship when she faces Thai titleholder Stamp Fairtex next month.
Zamboanga and Stamp will headline ONE 67: Stamp vs. Zamboanga at the Impact Arena in Bangkok on June 8.
Pacio said that he believes that his compatriot is fully capable of being the first-ever Filipina world champion in mixed martial arts.
“I have the big trust that Denice will be champion. I believe in her 100%. It’s her time,” he said.
The 27-year-old Zamboanga is coming off back-to-back decision wins before the title match.
Stamp, for her part, is riding a four-match winning streak, the last two of which are knockout wins over Alyse Anderson and Ham Seo Hee.
“This is the dream for every athlete. And, I know, her win would bring motivation for our female athletes to strive hard in their careers,” Pacio said.
“This is a good statement that if men can do it, women can do it as well, as long as you put in the work and have discipline and faith.”
He also gave a few tidbits of advice for Zamboanga.
“Just go out there and give it all. Whatever happens, put your faith in God and there will be a new champion.”
