KKR/GIC delays Metro Pacific Health exit amid valuation gap

From AB Capital's The Opening Bell: Three Moves

Event

KKR and GIC postponed the planned sale of their 80% stake in Metro Pacific Health, citing valuation challenges amid market volatility. MPIC retains its 20% stake, with expansion plans intact as the hospital network continues to grow.

View

In our view, the delay reflects softer risk appetite and valuation compression under current macro conditions. Healthcare fundamentals remain intact, but achieving target multiples is difficult given higher discount rates and uncertainty tied to global conditions, including the ongoing Middle East conflict.

Catalyst

Key drivers include market liquidity, interest rates, and geopolitical stability. A normalization in risk appetite could revive the sale process. Continued hospital expansion toward a 50 facility target supports earnings growth, though monetization timing remains uncertain in the near term.

Action

We think implications for MPIC and GTCAP are neutral near term. Value realization is deferred, but underlying asset growth remains supportive. Infra and healthcare exposure remains key for GTCAP, while monitoring capital recycling opportunities as a medium term catalyst.
