Minor charged for bringing gun to school

TACLOBAN, Philippines — Police have filed a complaint against a minor who brought a gun to a school in Catarman, Northern Samar more than a week ago.
Eastern Visayas police director Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño said the case was referred to the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor for further investigation and filing of charges for possible violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Cardiño said the municipal social welfare and development office has assessed the minor and found him to have acted with discernment.
The minor reportedly placed the gun inside his bag and brought it to the classroom.
A classmate saw the firearm and immediately informed their teacher.
The regional police committed to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for all learners, and urged school officials to remain vigilant.
