MANILA, Philippines — Online recruitment activity in the Philippines rose 7% year on year in February, signaling a stronger start to hiring as companies activated new budgets and resumed recruitment after the year-end slowdown.

Data from the Foundit Insights Tracker showed hiring momentum accelerating from a 4% increase in January, with recruitment activity over the past three months rising 10%.

Services sectors drive hiring. The growth was led by services-oriented industries, including business process outsourcing, tourism, logistics and construction.

Among the 13 sectors tracked, logistics, courier, freight, transportation and shipping posted the largest annual gain at 12%.

Healthcare and advertising, market research, public relations, media and entertainment each grew 8%.

Weakness in education, sales roles

Not all sectors expanded, however, as education recorded the steepest decline at 31%, Analysts linked this to enrollment pressures and cost-cutting measures that led to hiring freezes and workforce reductions.

By function, purchasing, logistics and supply chain roles saw the strongest growth at 13%, reflecting continued expansion in warehousing, procurement and distribution amid e-commerce and trade demand.

Finance and accounting roles, meanwhile, rose 9%. Sales and business development roles fell 15%, the sharpest functional drop, as companies remained cautious about adding frontline commercial staff and instead focused on productivity and channel efficiency.

The Foundit Insights Tracker is a monthly measure of online job posting activity cited in a report by Staffing Industry Analysts.
