MANILA, Philippines — Property builder Megaworld Corp. has expanded the retail space of its Binondo mall to welcome more locators that can serve the growing foot traffic in the district.

The Imperial Wing adds three levels of retail spaces to the mall, raising its gross leasable area to 36,000 square meters.

The expansion is linked to the main wing of the mall through the Chinatown Walk on the ground floor and air-conditioned walkways on the second and third levels. It also has direct access to the Chinatown Museum and is located behind the Lucky Chinatown Hotel.

Megaworld Lifestyle Malls head Graham Coates said the developer put up the Imperial Wing to expand the dining and shopping features in Lucky Chinatown. Megaworld is also bringing crowd favorites and new brands to attract visitors of all types.

“The expansion of Lucky Chinatown through Imperial Wing reflects our continued commitment to elevating the lifestyle experience on this side of Manila,” Coates said.

“We are also curating a diverse and dynamic tenant mix that responds to the evolving needs and preference of the market, as we strengthen our role as a vibrant community hub,” he added.

To date, Lucky Chinatown’s Imperial Wing has signed up tenancy commitments from Nitori, one of Japan’s most popular furniture brands, and KKV, a lifestyle retailer from China.

Joining the tenant mix is Robinsons Supermarket, which is now open on the ground floor. Mixue is also marking its entry into a Megaworld mall through Lucky Chinatown, and it will be joined by food usuals like Nono’s, Mesa, IlaoIlao and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.

In an earlier interview with The STAR, Coates said Megaworld plans to open a new mall this year to scale up its portfolio. He underscored the need for Megaworld Lifestyle Malls to keep up with the township growth of its parent.

Whether via new malls or expansion projects, the developer is working on augmenting its gross leasable area to at least one million sqm by 2030.

Megaworld’s Lifestyle Malls operates Uptown Mall, Newport City, Forbes Town, Venice Grand Canal Mall, Eastwood Mall, Southwoods Mall, among others.
