Business as usual at Okada Manila

MANILA, Philippines — Integrated resort complex Okada Manila is carrying on its usual operations in Parañaque despite the enforcement of a status quo order issued by the Supreme Court last April 27, which reinstated Japanese gaming tycoon Kazuo Okada as chairman of the casino.

Okada Manila issued the statement despite an ongoing corporate battle between Okada’s camp and the ousted board of Okada Manila’s parent firm Tiger Resort Leisure and Entertainment Inc. led by co-chairman Michiaki Satate.

The Satate-led board has vowed to exhaust all legal remedies to challenge the SC order.

In a statement, Okada Manila said its chairman Okada and his new board have already called a town hall meeting with Okada Manila’s top management, senior officers and team members to discuss the gambling tycoon’s plans for the casino resort.

During the meeting, Okada said he and his board would be more focused on employees’ welfare and ensure that the day-to-day operations of the hotel are top-notch.

He said he also plans to sustain the positive gains that Okada Manila has achieved so far.

He also said he would bring Okada Manila to “greater heights in the second half of the year.”

“Chairman Okada will focus on addressing the needs of the property’s hardworking employees and loyal customers. With a focused plan to attain greater success, chairman Okada said the best is yet to come at Okada Manila,” the statement said.

Okada Manila said the integrated resort now enjoys over 90 percent occupancy during weekdays and an even higher number on weekends.

The hotel’s restaurants have been at full capacity and its casinos are expecting more people to flock to its venues as travel restrictions at both local and international fronts ease up, it also said.

Okada Manila will also re-launch the iconic The Fountain in the third quarter.
